We really really struggled with finding somewhere in the Portland area that we thought we'd feel comfortable parking. I read TONS of reviews on all kinds of sites and everything was coming back pretty poor. We took a chance on this park and actually really appreciated our experience. Is this park full of wonderful ambiance where you feel like you're home and are able to sit out at night around your fire, no...not even a little bit. However, that being said, the location is spectacular, the grounds are clean and well kept, the sites are close but not tight - we had ample space for our slides, awning, and Jeep. The other campers kept to themselves and went about their own business. There are some permanent park residents but their sites were well-kept as well and I never felt like we were out of places in a "residents only" park. The staff members are class acts. There were numerous times they went out of their way to help us with something and they really made our stay there a positive experience.  Do not come to this park expecting to be wowed by its grandeur, charmed by its beauty, or fall in love with your site - do come here expecting a safe place to park that is clean, well-kept, and a perfect home-base for all your Portland area explorations.

This park will always have a special place in our hearts because it was the first time, since embarking on our journey, that we actually felt like we were camping. Because of our size and length of time we like to stay in one area, we usually book sites in RV Parks and then do our camping/exploration trips in our Jeep and a tent. But here at Ainsworth, it was so beautiful amongst the trees and we were able to have campfires and cook outside!  We were extremely close to so many breathtaking falls - we could even walk to one right from the campground, which we did every morning with our pup. You're right in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge and not too far from Portland if you want to hop into the city for dinner. Yes the road is tight and some of the spots aren't level, however, I figure if we could navigate it with a 45ft motorcoach, anyone can! We felt so at peace here and will absolutely return.
